A few weeks after the electronic version, I’m pleased to announce that the paperback version has also been updated for Debian 10 Buster. You can get it on lulu.com as usual.
Debian Handbook for Debian 10 Buster, now live !
Many of you have been asking me when I will publish an updated version of the Debian Handbook… the last proper release dates back to Debian 8 Jessie !
Yes I entirely skipped Debian 9. I didn’t want this to happen again so I hired two external contributors to update the book for Debian 10 (thank you Daniel Leidert and Jorge Maldonado Ventura).
The content has been ready for a while in git but I’m so swamped with other duties that I never put out a proper release. I wanted to review everything myself but I failed at doing this. And instead of always postponing until I find the required time, I figured out it would be better just to release what we have right now and let the community do its magic (including translators that will review what they have to translate!).
So here you are. You can get the Debian Handbook for Debian 10. If you find out issues, please report them (on salsa.debian.org preferably).
There’s no paperback version yet. The print version on lulu.com is still the Debian 8 version. I will try to fix this in the coming weeks.
I hope you will enjoy it!
The Debian Administrator’s Handbook is available
We’re pleased to announce that — after 5 months of work — the Debian Administrator’s Handbook is now available, both as a beautiful 495-page paperback and as an ebook (PDF, EPUB, MOBI formats).
The paperback’s usual price is €44.90, but we decided to make a special deal for the launch. You can get it with a 10% discount until May 18th. Hurry up and get it from Lulu.com.
The ebook is available for immediate download on the book’s website. There’s the PDF file corresponding to the printed book but also an EPUB version suitable for smartphones and ebook readers. You can also find a Mobipocket version for Kindle and other ebook readers that do not support EPUB (the open standard).
And of course, you can read it online.
Since the book is released under a set of free licenses (GPL-2+ / CC-BY-SA 3.0), it’s already available in Debian Unstable, just apt-get install debian-handbook
. There’s also a git repository (git clone git://anonscm.debian.org/debian-handbook/debian-handbook.git
) if you want to contribute.
We hope that you will enjoy the book and we’re eagerly awaiting your feedback (but don’t expect quick replies, I’m going to take a much needed one-week vacation).
